Jordan Schroeder, Danny Kristo, Matt Donovan and Derek Stepan — all from the Western Collegiate Hockey Association — scored goals Saturday night as the United States opened the World Junior Championships with a 7-3 win over Slovakia in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Schroeder (Minnesota), Kristo (North Dakota) and Donovan (Denver) and Stepan (Wisconsin) helped the Americans rally from a 2-0 first-period deficit and outshoot Slovakia 46-20.

St. Cloud State goalie Mike Lee earned the victory. Slovakia led 2-1 after one period. Also scoring for the Americans were Jerry D’Amigo of Rensselaer Polytechnic and Jeremy Morin of the Kitchener Rangers.

The U.S. plays Switzerland at 3 p.m. Sunday.
